Angiopoietins are essential angiogenic mediators. Since Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves inflammation, ulceration and regeneration of the intestinal mucosa, the angiopoietin system has been proposed as a factor to maintain pathological angiogenesis during the development of the IBD.
