Globins, small globular metalloproteins, are ubiquitous heme-binding a-helical proteins that regulate oxygen homoeostasis. Most known globins is associated with respiratory functions, supplying the cell with adequate amounts of oxygen for aerobic energy production via the respiratory chain in the mitochondria.
