Human neutrophil elastase (HNE) is a globular glycoprotein of about 30 kDa belonging to the chymotrypsin family. It consists of a single polypeptide chain of 218 amino acids and two asparaginelinked carbohydrate side chains at Asn95 and Asn144. HNE is involved in a variety of serious chronic diseases, especially cardiopulmonary pathologies.
