Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme-containing peroxidase expressed mainly in neutrophils and to a lesser degree in monocytes.Myeloperoxidase (MPO)catalyzes the formation of reactive oxygen intermediates hypochlorous acid (HOCl). The MPO/HOCl system plays an important role in microbial killing by neutrophils.
