Potassium channel specificity allows potassium ions to pass through the plasma membrane while blocking the permeability of other ions, especially sodium ions. Potassium channels include potassium channels with only the pore formation domain (KcsA), voltage-gated, internally rectified, series gated pore domains, and ligand-gated.
