A calcium ionophore
Calcium ionophore II is a neutral calcium ionophore.1 It is selective for calcium over strontium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, zinc, lanthanum, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Calcium ionophore II binds to calcium in a 1:3 (ligand:ion) ratio and induces calcium transport across artificial membranes and into rat liver mitochondria.2 It induces sea urchin egg activation when used at a concentration of 100 pM. Calcium ionophore II has been used in the preparation of calcium-selective electrodes.3
