Aldose reductase is a small, cytosolic, monomeric enzyme which belongs to the aldo-keto reductase superfamily. Aldose reductase catalyzes the reduced form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)-dependent reduction of a wide variety of aromatic and aliphatic carbonyl compounds.
