Enkephalins are endogenous opioid pentapeptides produced mainly in the central nervous system, adrenal medulla, and other peripheral tissues. Enkephalins can bind to the δ-opioid receptor. Enkephalins can be classified into Met-enkephalin (YGGFM) and Leu-enkephalin (YGGFL).
