Glutathione peroxidase 4 (Gpx4) is 1 of 8 known glutathione peroxidases in mammals and Gpx4 is unique among Gpx isoforms as it is the only enzyme capable of reducing esterified oxidized fatty acids and cholesterol hydroperoxides.
