Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) are a family of enzymes that catalyze the dephosphorylation of tyrosine (Tyr)-phosphorylated proteins. PTPs modulate the cellular level of tyrosine phosphorylation under normal and pathological conditions, and thus exert either stimulatory or inhibitory effect on signal transduction.
