A peptide fragment of histone H2A
Histone H2A (1-20) is an N-terminal peptide fragment of histone H2A that corresponds to amino acid residues 2-21 of the human histone H2A sequence. Methylation of the arginine at position 3 of histone H2A by protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1), PRMT5, or PRMT6 is associated with both transcriptional activation and repression.1 It is associated with DNA damage repair when methylated by PRMT7. The arginine residue at position 3 of histone H2A is also subject to citrullination by protein arginine deiminase 4 (PAD4).
